Green Initiative Project: Restoring Ecosystems in the Rivne Region
Table of content
In the face of the escalating climate crisis, the urgent need for green initiatives has become more evident than ever. The climate crisis poses a threat to ecosystems, communities, and economies worldwide. It requires collective action and a concerted effort to transition towards sustainable practices.
Green initiatives offer a multifaceted approach to combat the climate crisis and create a more resilient and sustainable future. By promoting renewable energy, reforestation, sustainable agriculture, and responsible resource management, these initiatives strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve natural resources, and protect vulnerable ecosystems.
At 4IRE, we recognize the importance of supporting green initiatives that drive positive environmental change. By combining our technical expertise with a deep understanding of the environmental landscape, we deliver green finance projects that align with the goals of a sustainable future. Through our innovative solutions, we strive to maximize the positive impact of these initiatives, creating a greener and more resilient world for future generations. Our team not only has strong cases in Green Finance, but also offers a ready-to Carbon Credit Marketplace – a platform gathering carbon credit providers, buyers, and CO2 traders.
One of the key technologies we leverage is blockchain. By harnessing the power of blockchain, we enable transparent and efficient transactions, ensuring the integrity of green finance projects. Blockchain technology provides a decentralized and immutable ledger that can verify and track environmental impact data, carbon credits, and other sustainability-related metrics. This level of transparency and traceability fosters trust among stakeholders and facilitates the seamless execution of green initiatives.
One exemplary initiative that showcases the power of green projects is the commendable work undertaken by our esteemed partners, Treetrio. Treetrio (Re-climate) with the support of Terraformation and Bitkraft Foundation launched an inspiring green initiative in the Rivne region, Ukraine. The project aims to restore biodiversity forests and capture carbon, marking a significant step towards a greener future. Treetrio is driven by a shared vision to create a sustainable model of forest management that rejuvenates the natural environment and addresses the urgent need to combat climate change.
With meticulous attention to soil and climate zones, the project has developed a comprehensive plan for planting forests across four forest districts within a forestry cooperative. The endeavor involved four forest districts carefully selected to optimize ecosystem restoration and carbon sequestration:
🌿 Blazhivske – 21.9 hectares
🌿 Snovidovytske – 10.6 hectares
🌿 Kamyanske – 3.5 hectares
🌿 Karpilivske – 14.0 hectares
The Treetrio team engaged 23 paid workers, including 10 women, who actively participated in the planting process. Despite the immense challenges faced during hostilities, the team persevered and fulfilled their obligations, showcasing an unwavering commitment to their mission.
While the project progressed, the cost increased due to rising fuel prices. Each site required multiple visits involving tractors, dedicated teams, smartphone-based tree mapping, and the replanting of seedlings that did not survive.
Despite facing challenges, the planting phase commenced in November 2021 and lasted for two weeks. However, it had to be temporarily paused due to a lack of rain and the arrival of the first snowfall, making forest areas inaccessible. The second phase of planting took place in early March 2022, even amid the outbreak of war. The decision to proceed during such trying times revealed the determination and resilience of the foresters, truly embodying the spirit of heroism.
Treetrio is an example of a sustainable model of forest management that unites local foresters and small businesses in joint work to restore the biodiversity of the Rivne region. The project’s impact extends beyond carbon compensation, providing a range of ecosystem services:
🌍 Restoring forests
🌍 Stimulating the local economy
🌍 Preserving water sources
🌍 Protecting biodiversity
🌍 Creating crucial carbon sinks
🌍 Halting desertification
The results achieved so far are remarkable:
🌱 Total Project Hectares to be planted: 50
🌱 Number of tree species: 12
🌱 Total Number of Trees planted: 100,000
🌱 Survival rate of all plants/trees: 90%
Due to unforeseen circumstances and increased fuel prices, the actual cost of implementation increased by 19% over the original budget. The difference in the budget was covered by teamwork.
Amidst maximum force majeure circumstances, the project’s completion stands as a testament to the unwavering determination and dedication of the team, who persevered against all odds.
The implementation of the project includes planting trees, transplanting failed saplings, as well as protection and care of trees for 45 years. To ensure effective tracking, foresters have been trained to use English-language smartphone apps and equipment to mark each tree on a map.
More than 40,000 trees out of the 100,000 targeted have already been planted, marking a significant step forward in the restoration of the Rivne region’s forests and the mitigation of carbon emissions.
By restoring nature and offsetting carbon emissions, Treetrio (Re-climate) is paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future. It stands as an example of how dedicated individuals and organizations can come together to make a lasting positive impact on our planet.
Green initiatives play a pivotal role in mitigating the environmental impact of human activities and preserving the delicate balance of our planet. In the near future the 4IRE team is planning to join Treetrio’s in their new project – forest restoration in the territories affected by the war, namely: in the Kherson, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions. The challenge is to assemble a team of scientists, foresters, and investors to restore the forests of Ukraine after the war, in accordance with biodiversity and the country’s new needs for renewal. Treetrio’s previous experience turned out to be even more valuable and we can effectively solve a problem that we didn’t even think about at the beginning. Free and green Ukraine is our goal!
At 4IRE, we passionately support carbon emission initiatives and possess a strong expertise in delivering GreenFi projects that contribute to a sustainable future. We are committed to driving positive environmental change and leveraging our technical knowledge and skills to create a lasting impact.
